I'd forgotten just how much I love 28-50 @2850Restaurant- a group of three 'wine workshops and kitchens' in London. We went to the #Mayfair branch in Maddox Street for supper last night and started the evening with a delicious biscuity glass of #Champagne #Henriot Souverain Brut NV - a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Apparently, Henriot is one of the oldest family-owned houses in Champagne, and has been owned by the same family since the late 1700s. The House focuses n developing strong bonds in the world of gastronomy, a fitting champagne for 28-50, where you can buy almost all the wines in 75ml measures so that your food and wine pairings can be perfect. We went on to enjoy a fabulous dinner with those perfect wine pairings that make you really respect the art of the Sommelier. I've also discovered they do a #bottomlessLunch on Saturdays. Where can you find the best hotel breakfast? I'd recommend the #PandHotelBruges - a charming boutique hotel and a member of @smallluxuryhotels - right in the heart of Bruges and just across the road from RozenhoedKaai. Not only is there champagne and freshly pressed orange juice but your breakfast will be freshly prepared for you on an Aga in the breakfast room by Sandra, just as she has done for 19 years. It's really quite a special experience. This was the bed in my room - The Pand Hotel has just 26 rooms, each one different. #SushiintheCity? what a great idea for #Brunch. The Private Members Club @devonshire_club has a weekend brunch menu where you can feast on a #Japanese menu of sushi, sashimi, pickled vegetables, seafood & vegetable tempura, crispy duck salad and pork belly ramen for just £50 per head. Add 2 hours of free pour #Champagne or prosecco available for an additional £30 or £15 per head respectively. We went along at 12 and rolled home around 4 pm! So apparently, according to MSN #EdinburghChristmasMarket is the best #ChristmasMarket in the UK. I was lucky enough to get there at just the right time on my recent trip with @Expedia staying at The Balmoral Hotel. It is certainly stunning -that walk along Princes Street Gardens is beautiful at any time of the year, but lit up with all the Christmas Stalls it becomes quite magical. And, it's very well managed - there's great spaces for kids - rides and even a #ChristmasTree Maze - and eateries plus designated areas for drinking alcohol. And, thanks to the layout it doesn't feel packed. I'd definitely go back again - but then I #LoveEdinburgh ! Now I just want to go back! It's rather special when things look just as stunning from the Back as from the front isn't it? In #Cambridge there's a pretty part of the City, known as #TheBacks where you can walk along the back of the colleges. Here, the backs of the colleges meet the #RiverCam - with lush green grass - an area that was historically used for grazing livestock and growing fruit. I have to admit that the last time I was there, over thirty years ago was with a group of friends who were students at #Cambridge. We had borrowed a couple of punts between about ten of us and managed somehow to sink one. Rather than lose the cash deposit we'd left, we punted up into The Backs and abandoned punt... In my view it's not worth getting stressed over #Christmas cooking when you are in London and there are so many wonderful things to eat on your doorstep - @paul_bakeryuk have a whole selection of wonderful Buches de Noel, Festive Cakes, Mince Pies and Macarons for #Christmas. I was lucky enough to be sent a few samples to feast on the other day - including this stunning slice of chocolate cake on a genoise sponge. I'm planning on treating myself over the #Festive season and buying rather than making #desserts. Why bother trying to surpass perfection? Isn't it beautiful - I enjoyed this with a glass of #Champagne - the perfect way to end a meal - or why not just indulge yourself and eat a slice with a good espresso? At @Freakscene it was so good we bought the book! @FreaksceneLDN is #ScottHallsworth 's latest popup in #Farringdon. You can expect stunning cocktails, excellent Sake and some quirky dishes including #blackcod tacos and #Sashimi #Pizza with truffle ponzu. All definitely worth trying and nothing over £12 a portion. Where in the World would you be happy to live? For me, other than London, one city in the UK stands out - that is #Edinburgh. All my feelings were confirmed on my recent trip to the #HistoricHotel @TheBalmoral - I stayed in a room with a view of#EdinburghCastle and this stunning sunset was my reward on the first night. The last time I was at #TheBalmoral was for a friend's wedding - and I was truly impressed on my return. It's all been refurbished since then and my room was charmingly decorated with William Morris patterns. And then there's that view. The hotel provided binoculars to make sure I could make the most of it. Now I just want to go back! The Langham Hotel has just launched their #FestiveTea -a #Christmas #AfternoonTea spectacular. This pretty pastry is @Langham_London 's ' Eternally Pistachio - a tiny, perfect wreath of crunchy choux topped with pistachio and cranberries and filled with a pistachio cream and cranberry jelly. It did taste sublime. There were four other delicious miniature pastries and it was really hard to pick a favourite. I was genuinely impressed with the tea - a lovely glass of @PerrierJouet Blason Rose Champagne and then sandwiches, savouries, scones pastries - and of course, some mince pies to finish the afternoon, all in the #luxurious surroundings of the #PalmCourt at the #LanghamHotel. This is the Chocolate Creamaux with caramel and with a naughty portion of Armagnac Ice Cream as a swap for the Milk Ice Cream on the menu at #Cambium - the three AA rosette fine dining restaurant which is part of @careysmanor_senspa - a #NewForest hotel and spa where I spent a night last week. It was my friend's dessert not mine - though I did get a dollop of the wonderful #Armagnac and prune ice cream to go with my own dessert of Treacle Tart. I'm not sure what part of #Careysmanor deserves more attention - the hotel was charming and comfortable, the food fantastic and the spa impeccably designed and a lovely place to spend a happy afternoon. I wanted to stay longer - always a good sign. The view from the South Bank at night is always stunning. I love the colours reflecting off the #Thames at #Bankside near Oxo Tower. #London is a city that never ceases to charm me - whether it is the scruffy wasteland of #Walworth or the prim and pristine South Kensington. I wish a river view home was within my budget. It's a while since I've had such a delicious #Japanese meal. @tsunami_restaurants in #Clapham is tucked away behind Clapham North Station - and having invited my friend (and #Japanesefood aficionado) @kaveyf to join me for dinner, I was slightly apprehensive. I really shouldn't have been. Dish after dish of delicious food appeared from the kitchen including this stunning steamed seabass in sake & soy ponzu. Just in case you didn't believe me - here's #NorthcoteManor in #Devon later that morning. It is a traditional English Country House hotel that I suspect hasn't changed too much since it first opened as such in 1972. The 'new' manor house was built in 1716, although there's a Victorian wing to the North East, added later. Remains of the original building can still be seen in the grounds and there are Parish records dating back to 1592. there's also a mention of the manor as it was in 1103 - in the reign of King Henry I in the papers of a previous owner, the Right Honourable Sir Stafford Northcote who died in the late 1800s. It's had many owners including Richard Babbage (I believe an ancestor of Charles Babbage) and Colonel Gracey who built the Northern Indian railway system. The motto over the door reads 'I follow the light'. I was particularly impressed by the friendly service, the pristine rooms and the excellent food - the hotel is managed by the head chef and I'm truly amazed by the close-knit supportive team who host @NorthcoteManor. The food, which has a two AA rosette listing, was unexpectedly excellent and in my book deserves its third rosette sooner rather than later. I was a little sad, driving from London to #NorthcoteManor in Devon through the pouring rain. While #EnglishCountryHotel stays are always lovely, it's much nicer if the sun comes out. What better way to spend a lazy Saturday than indulging in #Brunch. At @coqdargent in the #CityofLondon they've launched a new #BottomlessBrunch - with delicious @moetchandon #champagne of course. And, just in case you thought it would be all about avo toast - you can enjoy entrees including cajun baby chicken, fish and chips, moules frites or whole grilled seabass. Delicious. I went along for the inaugural event last Saturday - its just £29.50 for three courses and £40 extra for unlimited champagne. This year for me has been one of discovering the Czech Republic. Although, I've only been there twice, I've already fallen in love. Firstly with #Brno, then with #Prague and finally with #Pardubice. These rooftops are unmistakeably Prague but taken from a secret garden - #Vrtba - a hidden gem of a Baroque walled garden from 1720 in Lesser Town (Mala Strana), rarely seen by visitors to Prague. I spent a happy day exploring some of the hidden gardens of Prague with a guide from insightcities who are largely academics with a passion for the heritage of the cities where they are based. This one, the first on our itinerary, was both stunning and fascinating for the political leverage that its owner hoped would result from building it. As they say, a luminous glimpse into life of nobility in the 18th century and the aesthetics of #Baroque landscaping. And, when you climb to the very top courtyard with its marine-themed grotto, you are also rewarded by this beautiful vista of Prague’s cityscape. I just need to share this dessert - the #Tartoftheday at @rotundalondon which is the brasserie style restaurant for Kings Place. It was 100% as delicious as it looks - stuffed with nuts in a deliciously spicy mixture. In fact, we really enjoyed our lunch at #RotunaLondon - we had gone along somewhat cynically to try the #Seasonal #Regional food that this restaurant like many in London now claims. For once the promise matched the reality - we feasted on Crab, an amazing Cote de boeuf, with bernaise sauce to share. And this tart with cornish clotted cream. I hadn't come across Kings Place - but was really impressed by what I saw at this Arts Centre - and I'd travel to Rotunda for the food alone - as well as being pretty happy to eat here before or after a concert. More from Anna's recent trip to India with #THEParkHotels to experience first hand the colourful sights and sounds of #IncredibleIndia. She visited #Kaligat to see the temple of the Goddess Kali, early on Thursday morning. Although it was the 'quiet' time to visit the temple the place was still busy, full of pilgrims. #Kali is considered the Goddess of time creation, destruction and power - she is the mother of the universe. The consort of #Shiva she is the carrier of souls and the goddess of war, often being associated with battlefields and warriors. She is perhaps the original Wonder Woman, given she carries a sword and a severed head in her two left hands whilst her right hands are held in blessing and showing her fearlessness. Anna went to #Kolkata to help @TheParkHotels celebrate their 50th Year Anniversary #50yearsofTHEPark. I really don't often post my own cooking on instagram - but I am quite thrilled with this #apple rose on a sherry sabayon sauce which I made for my #sherryweekblog entry. The iapple roses were all the rage with bloggers a couple of years ago - but at the time I watched in awe and never actually cooked them. As it turns out they are beautifully simple - spiced, mandoline skinny half moons of apple tucked into an envelope of puff pastry then baked in muffin tins. Mine was served with a simple sherry sabayon made with some of the cream #sherry I was sent for #sherryweek - and of course, I enjoyed another glass with my #dessert. If you didn't already know, cream sherry is a blend of #Oloroso and #PedroXimenez - a semi sweet wine that pairs perfectly with fruity desserts and with cheese - or, if you happen to be my Aunty - with mince pies while you watch the Queen's Speech on Christmas day! An instagram takeover by Anna for the next few days who is travelling to #India on behalf of #LondonUnattached. She'll be staying at the stunning THE Park Hotel in #Kolkata and then #Hyderabad as part of their celebrations for the 50th anniversary of THE Park Hotels; a group that has pioneered the design and boutique hotel industry in India. Did you know it is #HoneyWeek this week (ending on 29th October). And in celebration of that, @plumspiltmilk have created an exclusive honey themed menu for just £45 per person. If you are quick, ending tonight, at #plumspiltmilk you can still enjoy a starter of Grilled Stawley goat’s cheese, Shropshire honey, cider poached apples & cobnuts, followed by Suffolk pig’s cheeks braised with Borage honey & cloves, glazed carrot & mustard creamed potato and for dessert, a Bell Heather Honey & buttermilk pudding, spiced raspberries & lavender shortbread. There's also ‘The Bees Knees’ cocktail featuring; Eldorado five-year old Gold Rum infused with banana, honey infused with cinnamon, Orgeat syrup, lime, Greek yoghurt, available at the @gnhotel bar . I went along to try it all, slightly unsure if it would be too sweet. #InBruges #VisitBruges I'm here staying at the #PandHotelBruges - a charming boutique hotel and a member of @smallluxuryhotels - right in the heart of Bruges and just across the road from this spot - which is apparently one of the most photographed places in Bruges - RozenhoedKaai. This morning, like Ken, I took a boat ride from here along the historic canals of #Bruges and was lucky enough to bump into a lot more swans - have the perfect weather AND a great guide. Tasting the #Parmigiano with the #Balsamico before we move on to a wonderful menu of dishes at @boccadilupo with @DialogueAgency @ParmesanUK #Acetobalsamicotradizionaledimodena - over the last few months there have been a wonderful series of events throughout London to showcase the differences in aged Parmigiano (12, 18 and 24 month aged) and in aged Balsamico (12 and 25 year aged!). I believe this, the final event for the year, was also the finest event. The grape harvest at Domaine du Chenoy owned and run by the charismatic Philip Grafe who used to run Grafé Lecocq in #Namur, one of Belgium’s leading wine negociants - who store their wines in the vaults of the Citadel. When he retired at the age of 65, he started his own #vineyard and is helping revive the #Belgian wine business. He has picked a range of grapes which are mildew resistant (mostly from Germany) and now produces some wonderful wines.
