I've been spending the last few days traveling around the #Alentejo - the kind of place where you just stumble upon palaces, castles, monasteries and churches. This part of the Alentejo is famous for marble - even the streets are paved with it. And, buildings like the one you can see in the background of the statue are made from it. The Paço Ducal de Vila Viçosa Duchal Palace was built in 1501 by the command of D. Jaime, Duke of Bragança as his family home. The palace was extended during the 16th and 17th centuries, to what you see today - a 110 metres length facade and a unique Portuguese architecture The square format of instagram doesn't really showcase the building properly - but I'll post more on #LondonUnattached in the next few weeks!
