Yesterday's trip to #Bath @theromanbaths was to learn more about the exciting #ArchwayProject - new excavation works at the #RomanBaths - but I had a great chance to explore the city too - and to take a good look around the Baths themselves. Did you know that the Baths were built over until Victorian times? I had somehow imagined that the Georgians, including #JaneAusten who was a regular visitor to Bath, knew the site that we now visit. In fact, it was only the spring which was open to the (discerning) public of the day. Bath has had a #Unesco listing since 1987 - but it's for all sorts of things - partly because of its Roman Remains, but also for the 18th Century (Georgian) Architecture, 18th Century Town Planning, Social Setting, Hot Springs and Landscape Setting. And those things conflict to some extent making excavation of what is now thought to be a large #Roman settlement almost impossible as it would destroy some of the 18th Century heritage. #travelwriter #instatravel #travelgram #travelblogger #instatbn #writetotravel #instapassport #postcardsfromtheworld #guardiantravelsnaps #ttot #tbin #travelblog #bbctravel @visitengland @visitbath
